History

SABLE (Safe from Abuse and Battered Living Environment) House was started in 1993 by the grassroots efforts of a small group of women in Polk County.

Sable House is founded! 
A weekly meeting provides information and support to victims fleeing from abuse. 
Education and Support Groups: Support sessions were set up to help abused women and children heal from emotional trauma and build skills to become safe, sufficient and independent.
Sable House services include: Emegency shelter, 24-hour crisis hotline, support and educational groups for women and children, sexual assault response, advocacy within the legal and social service system, information and referral and community education and outreach.

 Crisis Hotline: Sable House added a dedicated, 24-hour crisis hotline. 
Emergency Shelter: Sable House opened a shelter for women and children fleeing from abuse.
1999
Sexual Assault Response: Sable House began providing emergency, in person, sexual assault response services.
